Catch-Up #17

Weekend Catch-Up #17

In case you missed Sunday’s brief update via Facebook, I have been under the weather on and off for a couple of weeks and I was unable to post my weekend catch-up. Thankfully, good rest has helped me to recover and now I am feeling much better (I am finally able to sit at my desk with my eyes open!). Here’s a recap of the beauty-related things worth chatting about…

Empties. Not exactly empty, but I had to throw away my last refill of the Kjaer Weis Mascara, since it was due to be replaced. I try to remember to replace any mascara every three months to prevent eye infections from bacteria build-up. Now I am thinking about trying either the Antonym Mascara, or the Studio Paris 78 Double Effect Mascara. Marissa highly recommends both, but says that the Antonym mascara doesn’t budge, smudge, or flake ever! Sounds great, right? Have you tried it? If not, you can check out both mascaras here.

Baking Soda-Free, Cream Deo. I finally picked up the baking soda-free, Grapefruit Deodorant from Meow Meow Tweet and I am pleased to say that it is working quite well for me. The scent is light and refreshing and it does not linger at all (but would have not minded if it lingered because it’s a lovely scent). It has not been very warm lately, but it has kept me stink-free even on hormonal days. If you don’t mind applying a cream deodorant with your fingers (this one is not messy at all and spreads easily) and if you are sensitive to baking soda, you should definitely check this one out. You can find it here.

Skincare I am Loving. If you follow me on Twitter, you probably read that my skin has been particularly clear lately. I wish that I could tell you that I found a magical product, but I have actually kept it very, very simple. As simple as cleanse + tone + drinking more water + good sleep. I have started to take a supplement that I kept reading about and I think that it is really helping. I hope to have the full skincare routine up soon.

Lipstick Love. My cold sore is finally gone (Ha!) and I am finally enjoying browsing my lipstick collection again. Aside from the days spent in bed feeling ill, I have loved wearing a couple of lip products. First of all, my trusted ILIA Funnel of Love for a simple, quick peachy-nude lip. Second: remember the new Kjaer Weis lip tint? It’s so beautiful. I can either dab a little bit for a sheer warm red color or I can apply it with a brush for a full-coverage, glammed-up red lip. For everyday nude lips I have been wearing the Jane Iredale lip pencils is Spice or Nude with a good base of lip balm. Those two are the lip pencils that I would recommend trying if you were into the whole Kylie Jenner, overdrawn, lip-thing.

Shaving Fancy. I don’t know why I didn’t pick it up sooner, but the YULI Mr. Incredible Shave Oil* is awesome stuff. I had planned to buy it for my husband, but despite my best intentions, I have used it myself almost every day. Here’s the thing, I shave with liquid-free razors. I don’t use any of those blades that release conditioning agents, because the ingredients are everything but reassuring. I prefer not to use anything questionable on the delicate areas of my body, such as armpits. I also don’t do wax, as I previously said, because it irritates my skin badly, even when done by a pro. The Mr. Incredible Shave Oil is a very light, conditioning oil that prepares the skin for shaving and prevents irritation. It does not require any rinsing, but if you do rinse your skin, you can even re-apply it to moisturize the skin and prevent inflammation of your pores. You can find it here.

Make-Up With Skincare Benefits. The whole make-up with skincare benefits thing has never been so true to me until I tried this foundation. Some of you already know about it, and it was actually a lovely reader who convinced me to try it (thank you Alyssa!). It’s the Gressa Corrective Serum Foundation. It’s like a serum that actually has coverage and believe me, it’s good coverage. it does not feel like foundation on the skin, as it has the same texture of a light facial serum. It’s on the pricier side, but I might have a sweet deal coming your way… Stay tuned for more info, swatches, and all that jazz.

Make-Up Workshop. If you live in the Los Angeles area, do not miss the upcoming event with Katey Denno at The Detox Market. Katey will be teaching a Holiday Makeup workshop tonight (Tuesday, December 16th) from 6-9 PM. I cannot explain how jealous I am of all of you making it at this event because I am a big fan of KateyDenno and I loved hanging out at The Detox Market. If you would like to check out the event, just click here for more info.

I hope you all are well! New giveaway coming this week.
