At first, I was very, very skeptical about this product, but after I fell in love with the Rahua Voluminous Shampoo, my interest in the whole line of products started to peak. However, a USDA organic, alcohol-free, volumizing hair spray that smelled lovely (citrusy) sounded too good to be true (not to mention – Rahua claims that this hair spray also has some aromatherapy benefits). Therefore I took advantage of the awesome Thanksgiving/Black Friday deals and filled my virtual carts with quite a few new products.
I have been using it in a couple different ways. Sprayed on damp hair, it helps my hair to get some natural/effortless waves, (I had completely given up on waves when my hair turned flat and straight a few years ago). I just spray it all over my hair, give it a little scrunch here and there while blow-drying and voila’, some soft movement and volume. That would have been enough to make me love it. However, I have also sprayed it on dry, second-day hair, and it has been giving me some volume, body, and a soft hold– like in this pic I posted on Instagram. The only thing that I do not like is that after using it I cannot really use any styling tool like a curling wand or a flat iron because it smells like I am cooking an orange and I am pretty sure that it is not good for the hair. My suggestion is curl first and then just give a light spray. Lovely.
Since this is not a dry shampoo, you should not expect it to magically give your hair a Cheryl Cole, 3 inch lift-type of volume, but it does give a little lift without spraying the (many) questionable chemicals that are in conventional aerosol hairsprays and dry shampoos. I have tried quite a few “natural/organic” styling products and have not been completely happy with any of them except for this one. It leaves the hair clean, not crispy, not sticky and not even weighed down, but soft and bouncy. All my favorite conventional hair sprays and dry shampoos (the ones that give me very good-looking hair) are also the same ones I get terribly sick from smelling. That is why I am very happy to have finally found a styling product that works and that won’t make me rush to wash my hair a few hours after I have applied it.
Bottom line: Winner.
Rahua Voluminous Hair Spray is sold at Spirit Beauty Lounge (USA) and Cult Beauty (UK).
