Weekend Catch-Up #6

Weekend Catch-Up #6

It’s officially Fall, and this week I actually had to wear a light jacket! Repeat: A JACKET! I appreciate living in the sunshine state, but I am also enjoying the cool breeze coming through the windows (in daytime I can still go to the beach). Beside the wonderful weather, I had a very busy week (hence the lack of posts), but I have been using new skincare, new makeup, and shopped for more products that I am excited to try…

Empties: I finished another Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Cleansing Oil and I was not prepared for it (no backup!!). I quickly ordered another one, but in the meanwhile, I am using plain grape seed oil to melt down makeup and I am doing a second cleanse to make sure that I remove the oil properly. I am eagerly waiting for the new bottle of cleansing oil to arrive, but you know, I am actually thinking of trying a cleansing balm next… any recommendations?

Re-purchases: Sadly, my Ilia Beauty Funnel of Love lipstick expired (and was also in pretty bad shape from intensive use), so I bought a new one (I am curious: do you guys replace your expired lipsticks?). I was trying to find a review on my blog to link it for you guys and I realized that I never featured it! Shame on me, because that is the perfect peachy-nude lip color. I also got another ED4OLO Cleansing Oil, as I mentioned above, and another Kjaer Weis Cream Blush that I have been wanting to try.

Skincare Stuff: I am really enjoying the YULI Liquid Courage and I think that it has played a huge part in keeping my skin clear for the past two weeks. Not a single blemish in two weeks! I am also using the YULI Metamorphic Elixir, but so far, I think that I may still like the Cocoon Elixir better. I have been trying to finish my Aurelia Miracle cleanser, but for some reason, I did not enjoy my second jar as much as my first one, so I will probably not repurchase it. Instead, I am using the YULI Halcyon cleanser (a very, very light cleansing gel) and the Oskia Renassaince Cleansing Gel, which I am quite pleased with.

Lipstick Love: I have been loving the Kjaer Weis cheek combo of Embrace Cream Blush + Radiance Highlighter, so I am keeping it pink all the way with Ilia Beauty In My Room. I cannot get over how pretty that blush is and I might have been tricking myself into thinking that it makes me look a bit… younger.

Sales: The Detox Market is having great sales every week. This week you can get 15% off your order of $50+ on all skincare basics. It includes MV Skincare, Odacité, and Josh Rosebrook. Use code BASIX.

Please leave me a comment if you have any post request. Have a great week!

Hi there, great post. Have you tried the de Mamiel cleansing balm? I absolutely love it. I have oily skin, it doesn’t break me out and it is absolutely divine.

  • Joanna Giforos

The best cleansing balm imo is Emma Hardie amazing face moringa cleansing balm. Pure luxury and unlike most balms I’ve tried it leaves no residue upon removal with a warm cloth. I think you will love it!

This balm smells HEAVENLY (citrus-y) but its ingredients aren’t clean + made me break out. Also, name is deceptive, it’s called Moringa but contains a very small amount of it…

  • I’m deeply in love with my ED4OLO Vitamin B Cleansing Oil, thanks to you, Lilly! I don’t know how I could ever part with it. And I am not-so-secret admirer of all the YÜLI products. I reccomend trying the One Love Organics Skin Savior, but I’ve also heard good things about the De Mamiel Botaniques Restorative Cleansing Balm.

  • Marmots

Stark Skincare and CAMP, both Canadian companies, have great cleansing balms.

  • Nice roundup, Lilly! Question for you: What’s your philosophy on using branded cleansing oils to remove makeup vs pure organic plant oils (like you mentioned above, grapeseed)? This is a struggle for me because, at the end of the day, I just need a good oil cleansing to remove makeup before I wash with a nice cleanser. I like my balms and cleansing oils, but as I continue to attempt to pare down my products and establish a great routine, I find myself preferring to just use a pure oil (and save my cleansing balms for travel).

The cleansing balms I love are the OLO Skin Savior (because it’s multipurpose — use this in the winter for added hydration, too!) and the Stark Skincare Grapefruit Balm.

As for lippies, I try to throw out the ones that are too old — what’s your rule on how “old” or expired a lipstick is (if it doesn’t have an expiration date … I didn’t see one on my ILIA lippies?). I try to get rid of them after a year or year and a half.

How do you like the Halcyon cleanser? I have been using it for a few weeks. It seems to be doing a decent job of cleansing my skin, but I have had several breakouts since I started with it. It might not be *because* of the cleanser, but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything to help

  • I am also so in love with the Embrace + Radiance combo. I have a post coming up on that. They are perfect. Also: I have yet to try Funnel Of Love but it’s next on my list. I love In My Room, it’s my favorite neutral pink shade of lipstick ever! Also… I need to try this ED4OLO Cleansing Oil soon because it sounds like everyone loves it! For a cleansing balm you should try Stark Skincare Grapefruit Balm – it’s beyond amazing. I also love Suti’s Cleansing Balm, also so wonderful!

  • RebeccaNMDL

    I love my ED4OLO cleansing oil too : )

I get rid of any cosmetics, even if they don’t show an expiration date, when they start to smell different or have a change in appearance. Or, with lipsticks, taste different.

  • All those Kjaer Weiss makeup you’ve shared? ALL on my wishlist. The Embrace Cream Blush looks sooo sooo good on you :) Plus, the Radiance Highlighter just makes your skin even glow more (I mean is that still possible as your skin is already glowy by itself!!) :)

  • Hi Lilly, I have found so many great products from your blog especially the Yuli range, thanks! I would second the recommendation of the De Mamiel cleansing balm. A really mindful range with great clean ingredients that leaves me feeling so relaxed! I use this at night with the Pai cleanser for a second cleanse and my blemish prone skin is definitely much clearer and brighter. Such a shame we can’t get the ED40LO oil here in the UK yet!

  • Hi Lilly, I have heard so much about Yuli, I was wondering if you had a great starter product to try out this line?
