September Favorites

September Favorites Genuine GlowTreat Collection Nail Polish Dinner With Friends

I cannot believe how fast September went by. I am enjoying the slight weather shift and look forward to a chilly October filled with good seasonal foods. Sweet potatoes and Squash in particular (coconut-squash soup, helloo!). Before I get too much into what is ahead, let’s talk about the best in beauty from the past month.

Skincare-wise, I owe my currently clear complexion to YULI’s Liquid Courage. As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I have not had a single blemish in weeks. I have even used the Liquid Courage as a morning serum, though I don’t usually opt for face oils in the daytime. I find that one or two drops of Liquid Courage applied onto cleansed and moist skin does not create an overly greasy base for makeup. I do, however, wait about 15-20 minutes to let the serum to sink in (brush teeth, fix hair, do something else in the meanwhile) and then proceed with makeup. It makes a very good base for the Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation, which needs moisture to go on completely smooth.

May Lindstrom’s Jasmine Garden* has also been one of my most enjoyed skin products. Besides the absolutely divine scent, (which alone, would be a good reason to use this mist), I also find that it does a good job at giving a quick boost of hydration without leaving my face oily.

Tata Harper’s Resurfacing Mask was much loved, too. As I have mentioned in previous posts, this mask is a skin-savior when a tiny blemish pops up. I just apply a tiny amount of this mask on the blemish and let it sit there for as long as possible. Usually, within a couple of hours the blemish is gone.

Another Tata Harper product that I have been enjoying this month is the Regenerating Cleanser. I have used a bunch of samples, (you gotta love the free samples you can pick from Spirit Beauty Lounge when you checkout!). I usually stay away from exfoliating scrubs as most of them are too harsh for my skin, but I wanted to at least try it. I ended up using it twice a week and will most likely purchase a full-size. However, I still avoid using it on my forehead, which is the most easily congested and blemish-prone area of my face. I had an awful experience  months ago, and I am still too scared to exfoliate the skin on my forehead.

Kjaer Weis Creme Foundation was my base product of choice throughout the entire month. The shade Illusion is a pretty good color match for my skin at the moment and it works well as a base for other makeup products that I have been loving: the Kjaer Weis Cream blush Embrace* and the Highlighter Radiance. I think that this will become the first “natural” foundation that I will use completely; which is a great feeling, especially considering how expensive it is.

I have kept my lip color choices quite autumnal and I am loving wearing Perfect Day in the daytime, and Femme Fatale and Ink Pot (wearing it in this post) for the evening. Perfect Day is a coral red, that applied lightly gives the most gorgeous, wearable, and warm red color. Femme Fatale and Ink Pot are both very intense and Fall appropriate, but also easy to wear when paired with a simple, neutral eye makeup, with black liner, and a touch of bronzer.

On my nails, I have been wearing the Treat Collection Nail polish in Dinner with Friends most of the time. This is oh-so perfect for Fall. It is a deep red that reveals a Fuchsia hue in natural light. Love the shade, the formula, and the bottle.

Finally, the Kahina Fez Hand and Body Balm* has been my go-to night time treatment for hands, cuticles, and nose. I find the scent relaxing and enjoyable and I like to take my time to massage my hands before going to bed. In the morning, my hands are soft and comfortable.

What were some of your favorite products in September?

  • The May Lindstrom Jasmine Garden sounds absolutely divine! I can’t wait to try one out myself. And what a gorgeous nail polish that’s perfect for fall. Also, Perfect Day is such a flattering red shade and I adore the brand, Ilia Beauty. They make such quality lip products in modern, stunning hues.

What do you switch the Tata Harper cleanser with? I love it and can only handle the exfoliation it providies but also can’t use it too often because it plugs up my pores with wax.

May Lindstrom Jasmine Garden is very enjoyable and the smell is everything and more. But I feel it doesn’t *do* anything for my skin. Yes boost of hydration but the first ingredient *is* water so I think it is more fragrance less skincare.

Have you ever tried Juara Sweet Black Tea & Rice Facial Moisturizer or the Juara Tamarind Tea Hydrating Toner? I just came across them and was wondering if I should try them out, figured I should ask you to see if you ever tried them before…..

Just picked up the Tata Harper’s Resurfacing Mask.

  • I have just discovered your blog a few days ago and I love the selection of products you talk about! I’ve ordered my first Ilia lipstick yesterday and I can’t wait to get my hands on it! Really curious about Tata Harper’s Resurfacing Mask—my skin has been misbehaving lately and this sounds like something I could definitely use.

  • Christine

The May Lindstrom toner is one of my current favourites too! For the Tata Harper resurfacing mask, would you leave it on overnight or would that be too long as a spot treatment? I have a sample of it and I am interested in trying it that way. In the past, I used a sample of the mask as a mask and didn’t notice much of an effect but I’d happily give it another go! Thanks for the suggestion of the Treat polish – the colour looks so pretty on! The Fez balm is on my list – I really love their body serum. Another amazing body serum is May Lindstrom’s The Good Stuff – have you tried it? I can’t get over how much I love it.

Great recommendations! I have been struggling with acne on my forehead. (I’m not even sure if it is acne, it’s these small bumps that never really come to head, yippee!) After reading your post I think it might be from over exfoliating! Can you say what product caused you extreme irritation? If you don’t want to name names I understand but I think I am making the same mistake! Thank you :)

  • Another lovely post Lilly! greetings from Amsterdam! x

    • Thanks love! I hope all is well :)

  • Lisa

Hi Lilly! Gosh you are a glowing beauty.

Quick Q – for normal/combo (oily T zone – breakouts/small bumps on forehead/chin), that constantly has minimal breakouts and is exacerbated during that time of the month – what would you recommend?

YULI Liquid Courage OR Dr. Alkitis Soothing Gel?

My main concern is breakouts and have fairly sensitive skin, but am ok for radiance + maintaining a glow (I’m vegan and eat mostly raw!) but still suffer from pesky breakouts.

I want to purchase one, but am wondering what you would suggest!!

    Thanks so much xo

    • Hi Lisa, thank you for your kind words.

I use the two products you mentioned for different purposes. YULI Liquid Courage is a serum (oily texture) that you can use day and night (after cleansing and misting), and is packed with healing ingredients. I have been using every day for the past few weeks and my skin has been great. From your description, it looks like you and I have similar skin, so this serum may work for you, too.

The Dr. Alkaitis Gel is very, very light in texture (it is aloe gel-based). I love using it post-shaving because it soothes the skin and has antibacterial ingredients, and on a hot, humid day when I want light hydration on my face. It is not something I would use in place of a serum. So I had to pick one, I would pick the YULI serum.

I hope that helps! If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask :)

Hey there Lilly! I love to oil cleanse, I have been using De Mamiel cleansing balm or Black Chicken Cleanse My Face cleansing oil…on double cleansing, what is your go to or recommendation on a follow up cleanser? Are you still going to the Odacite cleanser? And other suggestions?

    • Hi Jenna, depending on your texture preference, you could try YULI Halcyon if you like light-weight gel cleansers, Odacite if you like cleansing milks, MV Skincare Gentle cream cleanser if you like cream cleansers. I have a brief review for that cleanser:

Which cleansers have you tried so far? Which texture do you prefer?

  • Stacy

Great favorites!!! Waqnt to try everything)

  • Marcella

The Jasmine Garden is one my September favorites too! I like that daily use helps with balancing my skin and possibly making me breakout less. :) Gorgeous pictures, Lilly! <3
