Monthly Favorites: October 2013

Monthly Favorites OctoberThis year, October went something like this: lovely chilly weather, boots, sweet potatoes, a Fall festival, and great new beauty products. I also went a little crazy shopping at Abe’s Market. They have a great selection of health foods and “natural/organic” products, and also have a fantastic customer service. I stocked up on probiotics and organic raw nuts, and found some delicious-looking hot chocolate packs I am going to try. Do you have any favorite organic (sugar free) hot chocolate mix? Let me know! Onto the October beauty favorites…

If you read my review, you know that I tried the  Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Oil Cleanser and added it to the list of my favorite cleansers. It is a wonderfully scented oil product (smells like tropical fruits) that melts down makeup and dirt quickly and effortlessly, and completely dissolves with water. I have used almost half of the bottle in one month, which should give you an idea of how much I like it. Perfect on days when I wear a little extra makeup and I want to take it off without rubbing/pulling my skin, especially around my eyes.

Waxelene* has become not only part of my evening routine (my lips and hands crave it every night) but it is also always in my purse.  Since I re-discovered it, I have not gone a day without it.

Rahua Voluminous Shampoo was the most surprising find of all. It was right there in front of my eyes this whole time I have been shopping at The Detox Market, yet I kept postponing my purchase. When I decided to give it a try I found an awesome trial pack at Barneys (free fast shipping!). Now I have run out of the Voluminous one and I am getting ready to switch to the original formula. Will definitely keep you posted about the switch. In the meanwhile, I un-twisted the cap and sniffed the Original Shampoo to see if the scent was really too herby as some people told me. As expected, I love it. It can never be too herby for me!

Tammy Fender Epi-Peel*. The fact that it takes only a few minutes, and that gives my skin a complete facial experience (exfoliating, detoxifying, renewing, softening) makes this mask a staple. I have been using it more often than recommended, but have not experienced any reactions. It just makes me want to visit Tammy Fender Spa even more.

As for nails, I was eager for the right time to come so I could wear this eggplant-purple shade called What, by Sheswai. So perfect for Fall. I love the formula of this one, almost as much as my other Sheswai favorite, For Real.

Finally, my makeup favorites for this month were my Z-Palette, Kjaer Weis Lip Tint in Dream State* (perfect complement for smoky eye looks) and a new mascara I have been testing out that I will tell you more about soon…

*PR Sample

  • The Z palette looks gorgeous! For some reason the Elizabeth Dehn products are not in UK even though One Love Organics is, that oil sounds good xx

I’ve heard good things about the Z palette & I really really want to try Kjaer Weis! My natural eyeshadow collection is pretty much non-existent so I think I need to buy some ;) x

  • Lovely! Do you ever just order Kjaer Weis refillable eyeshadows to use in the z-palettes? I am thinking of doing this to save some money, even though I ADORE the packaging, I find they are not ideal when it comes to travel and added cost. What is this new mascara you are trying out!? dying to know ;)

Lily! I *finally* tried the Pai cleanser after my sister bought it (on my recommendation) and fell in love. And now I’m in love too! It reminds me a lot of Eminence Organic’s sweet red rose or lemon cleansers, except I prefer the thicker texture of the Pai and find it cleanses a LOT better. I’m going to use the rest of the sample she gave me (such a generous sister!) and then I might have to purchase! It seems to have really calmed my skin..
But I gotta say, I’m still dealing with the acne thing at 25, and I’m thisclose to trying out Retin-A. I KNOW it’s not clean but I’ve tried EVERYTHING, and my acne is stress-related and thus needs help always because I’m in grad school. I’d love to hear your opinion!

I purchased the Elizabeth Dehn FOLO cleanser based on your review of it and I LOVE IT! I can literally feel it sloughing stuff off my face while I massage it in and it is soooo gentle.

    • That makes me happy! :) Thanks for sharing, and enjoy!

  • Marni

    Love your blog!
I am a French reader, and I learn a lot when I come here.
I also want to say that you are a beautiful girl, your skin seems so perfect!
    Have a nice week end!

    • Hi Marni, you made me blush! Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind comment :)

PS-My skin is definitely not perfect, but makeup helps a lot ;)

Great list! I really need to check out Waxelene. I’ve seen it pop up on a couple different “best of” lists recently and it sounds right up my ally & perfect for winter. I’m almost out of one of my current favorite balms (Badger Damascus Rose Beauty Balm) and it might be time to change it up. I love the beautiful fall colors in your Z-palette and of the nail polish.
