One of the noteworthy makeup launches that happened this Fall is from ILIA Beauty and consists of two lipsticks and two face products. The first item I picked is a classic red lipstick called Strike It Up and I know it’s hard to believe, but I did not have any lipstick in the same color (that’s what we say to justify certain purchases, right?)

Strike It Up is described as a classic, true red with blue undertones. I find the description very accurate, except that the blue undertone is not very strong and that makes this very easy to wear for those with different skin tones. The shade is very similar to Femme Fatale, but Femme Fatale is a bit darker and looks a bit more like a brick-red. I own almost all the red Ilia lippies (see swatches above)  and Strike It Up is actually my favorite one because it is a timeless red. Being a lipstick, the pigmentation is greater compared to the ILIA tinted lip conditioners and is almost fully opaque.

The texture is the usual ILIA semi-matte (non-drying, not too creamy). I think that wearing a lip balm underneath is not necessary unless your lips are very dry. However, I do recommend doing a nice lip scrub before wearing so that the lips will look smooth and it won’t emphasize flakey lips. The staying power is good, or at least satisfying to my standards (I don’t mind touching-up my lipstick). It doesn’t come off easily and fades pretty evenly after at least 5-6 hours, unless you eat/drink.

If you like to line your lips before/after applying a red lipstick, I recommend using the Jane Iredale Lip Pencil in Crimson, which is a great match for Strike It Up.

If you are on the market for a beautiful red lipstick, get this one, you’ll love it. If you are new to ILIA Beauty Lipsticks, you will definitely appreciate the lovely formula that includes moisturizing, certified organic plant oils and waxes and no obnoxious scent. GG approved (I have almost all of them!). You can find it at The Detox Market.
