December Favorites

December Favorites 2014

It’s time (well kind of, I am bit late, I know) to line up this past month’s very best. In case you missed the last few posts, my husband and I recently bought a house and we just moved in a few days ago. As you can imagine it has been a busy, stressful time, and we did not even have proper holidays celebrations. I actually spent NYE and the whole countdown thing cleaning my new bathroom (how glamorous! but this is real life, right?). I may have gotten a bit frustrated over my Instagram feed full of glammed-up snapshots while I was scrubbing my bath tub toilet, but December was a special month anyway. I am very excited to finally have significantly more space to organize my product collection, a studio/office to decorate, and outdoor space to finally grow flowers…

Okay, let’s chat about beauty stuff.

YULI Halcyon Cleanser. It is safe to say that I love this facial cleanser. It’s funny how I went from occasionally using it to, I can’t be without it. This is my second bottle (almost empty btw), and I will purchase it again. My skin has been doing so well lately that I don’t see a good reason to change the products I am using now. Yes, I am always curious about trying new products, but I won’t change cleanser any time soon. I have even used it to remove my (light) makeup a few times. It was just foundation and mascara, but Halcyon did remove everything properly. Find here.

YULI Mr. Incredible*. I have been using oils to prep my skin before shaving for quite a while, but this shave oil is a different story. Not only does it create a silky smooth layer over the skin for the blades to effortlessly glide over, but it also prevents irritations (it contains several anti-inflammatory ingredients) and it smells so good, (quite herbal, in the best way possible). It is definitely a luxury option, but if you can afford it/if you want to treat yourself/your man. It is an excellent product and makes shaving a much more pleasant activity. Find here.

Meow Meow Tweet Grapefruit Deodorant. I am so happy with this deodorant cream. The texture is soft and smooth, so it applies quickly and easily. I just pick a pea size for each armpit and cover the whole area. It keeps me from smelling bad all day long. I still carry the Citrus Natural Deodorant spray from Blissoma in my bag, so just in case I want to refresh myself, I do one spritz on each pit and I am good to go. Did I mention that Meow Meow Tweet Grapefruit deodorant is baking soda-free? Find here.

Osmia Organics Hand Creams (not pictured). I have thrown away all of my empty packaging before moving, but the Osmia Organics hand creams were definitely a favorite of mine throughout the entire month. The two scents available are both lovely, but I slightly prefer Linden Rose. My hands were doing great until I ran out of my last tube of this cream. A coincidence? I don’t think so. I will buy more and more (and more!). Find here.

Waxelene. During Winter, Waxelene is one of my must haves. From moisturizing lips and moisturize hands to soothing irritated dry skin, it is the one multitasking balm that I am never without. It works great and it is very inexpensive compared to any other balm I own. You can read more about it here.

Poppy Jane Co. Candles. The mister and I have heavily relied on the scent “Breathe Deep” (and opening windows) to help with funky smells still lingering at the house. It is very uplifting and refreshing, without being overpowering. It contains non-GMO soy, wax, and beeswax, so it lasts longer than candles that contain soy wax only. Find here.

Green Pastures Fermented Cod Liver Oil+Butter Oil. After going through two jars of this supplement I can totally say that it does help my skin. I am not going to attempt a detailed medical explanation, but I think that it may have supplied nutrients to my body that benefit the skin, such as Vitamin A & D. My skin has been unusually clear for quite a while, even though I have been tired and stressed out. I think that this supplement is the main reason for my good skin month. Find here.

Gressa Corrective Serum Foundation. The more I use this foundation, the more I love it, and I cannot find anything I don’t like about it, (maybe the price, I guess? I don’t even care how much it costs…). I have taken photos to show you a before and after in my upcoming review and I am sure you will agree with me that this stuff rocks. Worth every single $ and will definitely buy more when I run out of it. I highly recommend it, especially if you don’t like wearing foundation because of the feeling of foundation on the skin. This one feels like you are wearing a skincare product–a serum, but with a good coverage. I don’t even wear concealer when I wear this foundation. Find here.

Alima Sombra Contour Powder. I have been barely using any makeup this month, but when I did, I always used this bronzing powder to warm up my paler skin. If you have never heard of it, check out my review here. I have been using it for quite a while, and it is the only bronzer I have used ever since I bought it. Being that it is a loose powder I have not even used up a quarter of the jar, so it is also a great investment, dollar-wise. Find here.

Ilia Beauty Lipstick Perfect Day. I have not been wearing much makeup throughout the month of December, but when I did it was just the Gressa foundation, some mascara, and a lip color. I wore Funnel Of Love and Perfect Day more than any other lip colors. Funnel Of love is my go-to, peachy-nude, every day lipstick, but Perfect Day is the one lip color that makes me look more alive and healthy whenever I am very tired and a bit pale (like now). It’s a warm, coral-y red. It makes me look like I put a lot more effort into getting ready than I actually did. Find here.

    Dear Lilly,

sorry it’s bit off topic for this post but in another one you mentioned that the ED4OLO cleansing oil will be available in the UK soon. Do you have some news when it’ll be available in the UK online shop?

    • Hi Vanessa, sorry for the delay. I emailed the company and unfortunately they don’t know when they will be able to launch in Europe. The EU has recently added new testing requirements, and until all the testings will be completed they won’t be able to sell in the UK. I am sorry :(

I plan on doing more ED4OLO giveaways for readers who live outside of North America ;)

      • Vanessa

Oh that’s bad news and good news in one. What a pity, that the testing will take some time.
Looking forward to the giveaways ;)

  • Great post! Thank you!

  • Congrats on your new house! I hope you get some well-deserved rest soon, moving is really exhausting. This is such a great list! I love Gressa’s foundation to pieces, it’s so light but the coverage is amazing. Have you tried Gressa’s lipboosts? They are lovely as well, creamy and natural-looking. xx

  • Great winter beauty essentials going on there!

  • I can’t remember if it was Perfect Day or Voilà that I wanted, but both (one?) are on my wish list. Such a lovely warm shade (either way – I honestly can’t remember which one I really wanted).

  • Another lovely post! You have just further ignited my desire for the Gressa Skin Minimalist Serum Foundation. It sounds like a dream! I would also love to try more from YÜLI, Osmia Organics, and Osmia Organics.

  • Lisa

Ohhh this list is so good! I heard Mr. Incredible can also be a scalp treatment, have you tried on that front? If so, I might get it so the mister and I can both use it. Halcyon is so good too, totally under rated with all the balms and oils but cleansing gels DO work better at cleansing and this one is just so gentle.

Cod Liver Oil really did change my body for the better, I don’t know why it’s better than fish oil but the change is evident.

  • Ohh I just got the Meow Meow Tweet deodorant in my Petit Vour box this month, so excited to try it now! Awesome collection, I would love to try those Poppy Jane candles. Happy New Year beauty!

  • Nicole

congrats on the move! You always feature such gorgeous products. So glad the MMT deo works for you, I literally cannot go a day without it xo

  • Congrats on getting a new home! I dream of the day when the hubs & I get our own…

I’ve heard a lot about the Green Pastures Fermented Cod Liver Oil+Butter Oil. I’m currently on the DIM detox supplement now and it’s been helping with the pesky monthly spots. Do you think the Green Pastures supplement helps with that too?

  • Hi Beth, I am very sorry to read that you had a bad experience. I have never ordered directly from YULI Skincare, but I have always had pleasant message exchanges with them.

If you would still like to try YULI products, you could order them from Spirit Beauty Lounge. They have accepted any product I returned and I have always had a great experience with their customer service. Not to mention you get free shipping on all orders $50+ and great samples to test out.

I hope this helps, and I hope your skin gets better soon :)

Hm that doesn’t sound like the experience I’ve had with YULI. I ordered from Amazingy a long time ago when YULI reformulated their Modern Alchemist and e-mailed them directly since I wanted the new formula. They went above and beyond to help me even though they didn’t need to since I technically wasn’t even their customer. There are two sides to every story and especially online I hope somehow YULI has an opportunity to share theirs.

      • Hi Lydia, thanks for sharing! I, too, have found the folks at YULI to be always kind and lovely so I am glad to hear you had a great experience! :)

  • Serena

Having worked in a customer call center for a MAJOR cable company, I’ve heard it all so I’m sorry if you’ve had a bad experience. To me, I feel that it doesn’t sound at all logical that they would do the extreme things you claim and actively berate you or place personal blame on you so callously as you’ve described them to do. I always e-mail or call before I place an order to ask questions about my skin and YULI is one of the lines that has a professional team in place to handle this which makes me believe they have trained protocols that would prevent such an exchange from occurring.

This being the internet and all I take everything with a grain of salt. Working at the cable company call center we’ve had customers who didn’t get what they wanted end up badmouthing us and exaggerating situations online to the proportion that few shreds of truth remained in their retelling and that kind of seems like what is happening here.

If I am wrong then I apologize but this does trigger some PTSD memories from that previous job.

Lovely blog post as always. Can you please do a review on the Ecobrow? I really want to purchase it but I am not sure if its worth it. xx

    • Absolutely! Will try to do it asap. Thanks for the request ;)

  • Lou

Hi lily! I wanted to know if you knew any good SPF foundations/tinted moisturisers? Thanks! :)
