Catch-Up #17

Weekend Catch-Up #17

In case you missed Sunday’s brief update via Facebook, I have been under the weather on and off for a couple of weeks and I was unable to post my weekend catch-up. Thankfully, good rest has helped me to recover and now I am feeling much better (I am finally able to sit at my desk with my eyes open!). Here’s a recap of the beauty-related things worth chatting about…

Empties. Not exactly empty, but I had to throw away my last refill of the Kjaer Weis Mascara, since it was due to be replaced. I try to remember to replace any mascara every three months to prevent eye infections from bacteria build-up. Now I am thinking about trying either the Antonym Mascara, or the Studio Paris 78 Double Effect Mascara. Marissa highly recommends both, but says that the Antonym mascara doesn’t budge, smudge, or flake ever! Sounds great, right? Have you tried it? If not, you can check out both mascaras here.

Baking Soda-Free, Cream Deo. I finally picked up the baking soda-free, Grapefruit Deodorant from Meow Meow Tweet and I am pleased to say that it is working quite well for me. The scent is light and refreshing and it does not linger at all (but would have not minded if it lingered because it’s a lovely scent). It has not been very warm lately, but it has kept me stink-free even on hormonal days. If you don’t mind applying a cream deodorant with your fingers (this one is not messy at all and spreads easily) and if you are sensitive to baking soda, you should definitely check this one out. You can find it here.

Skincare I am Loving. If you follow me on Twitter, you probably read that my skin has been particularly clear lately. I wish that I could tell you that I found a magical product, but I have actually kept it very, very simple. As simple as cleanse + tone + drinking more water + good sleep. I have started to take a supplement that I kept reading about and I think that it is really helping. I hope to have the full skincare routine up soon.

Lipstick Love. My cold sore is finally gone (Ha!) and I am finally enjoying browsing my lipstick collection again. Aside from the days spent in bed feeling ill, I have loved wearing a couple of lip products. First of all, my trusted ILIA Funnel of Love for a simple, quick peachy-nude lip. Second: remember the new Kjaer Weis lip tint? It’s so beautiful. I can either dab a little bit for a sheer warm red color or I can apply it with a brush for a full-coverage, glammed-up red lip. For everyday nude lips I have been wearing the Jane Iredale lip pencils is Spice or Nude with a good base of lip balm. Those two are the lip pencils that I would recommend trying if you were into the whole Kylie Jenner, overdrawn, lip-thing.

Shaving Fancy. I don’t know why I didn’t pick it up sooner, but the YULI Mr. Incredible Shave Oil* is awesome stuff. I had planned to buy it for my husband, but despite my best intentions, I have used it myself almost every day. Here’s the thing, I shave with liquid-free razors. I don’t use any of those blades that release conditioning agents, because the ingredients are everything but reassuring. I prefer not to use anything questionable on the delicate areas of my body, such as armpits. I also don’t do wax, as I previously said, because it irritates my skin badly, even when done by a pro. The Mr. Incredible Shave Oil is a very light, conditioning oil that prepares the skin for shaving and prevents irritation. It does not require any rinsing, but if you do rinse your skin, you can even re-apply it to moisturize the skin and prevent inflammation of your pores. You can find it here.

Make-Up With Skincare Benefits. The whole make-up with skincare benefits thing has never been so true to me until I tried this foundation. Some of you already know about it, and it was actually a lovely reader who convinced me to try it (thank you Alyssa!). It’s the Gressa Corrective Serum Foundation. It’s like a serum that actually has coverage and believe me, it’s good coverage. it does not feel like foundation on the skin, as it has the same texture of a light facial serum. It’s on the pricier side, but I might have a sweet deal coming your way… Stay tuned for more info, swatches, and all that jazz.

Make-Up Workshop. If you live in the Los Angeles area, do not miss the upcoming event with Katey Denno at The Detox Market. Katey will be teaching a Holiday Makeup workshop tonight (Tuesday, December 16th) from 6-9 PM. I cannot explain how jealous I am of all of you making it at this event because I am a big fan of KateyDenno and I loved hanging out at The Detox Market. If you would like to check out the event, just click here for more info.

I hope you all are well! New giveaway coming this week.

  • Glad you’re feeling better. I’m looking forward to seeing your skincare routine!

    • Thank you, Allie, that’s so kind of you :) I will do my best to upload it soon. My husband and I are currently moving, so it has been a bit difficult to find time to blog. I should be going back to regularly posting in January. Thanks for reading! ❤

  • Megan

What supplement have you been taking? I need help now!;)

    • Hi Megan, I wrote it in my last catch-up #18. It’s fermented cod liver oil. I was skeptical when they told me it would help to clear out my skin from redness and blemishes around my nose and mouth, but it turned to really work. Perhaps my body was deficient of some vitamins and other nutrients that cod liver oil provides. However, like I wrote in that post, it is important that you know how much your body can take of it, as it provides large amounts of Vitamin A (which can become toxic to the body). Have you heard about the benefits of cod liver oil for the skin before?

I love meow meow tweet’s baking soda free deodorant! it has made the switch from antiperspirant a little bit easier!

Excited to read your new skincare routine. I actually enjoy the steps of my skincare routine but am always looking for ways to make it better, whether it’s adding more or less steps/products.
By the way, thanks again for the YULI giveaway & for picking my name! :)

  • I really wanted to try the Gressa foundation but Nuciya had 20% off on Black Friday so I picked up the Sappho organics one which has great ingredients in it for skin too! The Gressa one is still on my wishlist though ha! Jealous that your skin has been clear lately..mine has been playing up! Think I need to simplify it a little too.. xx

I just caved and ordered the gressa foundation on the weekend so I’m suuuper pleased to hear yet another good review! I can’t wait for it to arrive!!!!

  • These are amazing products! I’m definitely coveting the new Kjaer Weis lip tint (such a gorgeous shade) and the Gressa Skin Minimalist Corrective Serum Foundation. I’d also love to try more from YÜLI, I’ve only had the pleasure of trying out their Halcyon cleanser and samples of their Pure mask + elixirs.

  • Ali

Lilly I can’t wait for your review of the Gressa foundation! It is on the top of my next to purchase list and sounds amazing! I’m also excited to hear about the supplement you’ve started taking for your skin. I’m in the same boat in terms of trying to simplify my skincare and stick with a routine for an extended period of time.

I just bought the Meow Meow Tweet deodorant because of a baking soda sensitivity too and I can’t wait to try it – smells great :)

I love your blog – thanks for being awesome and sharing that awesomeness with your readers!

  • Jenny

I’m very intrigued about this sweet deal you speak of! ;)

  • So glad you are feeling better! What kind of razor do you use? I’ve had such a hard time finding ones without the nasty moisture strips!

  • Glad you’re back and feeling better! I just bought the Gressa foundation, too. Wearing it for the first time today and loving the way it feels. I’m also in this “simplify” mode — cleanse, tone, serum and water, sleep, exercise. Sleep is the biggest thing for me … hard to shut down at night!

  • Oooh, loved this post because I just bought the Gressa foundation as well (for me, it’s insanely light coverage, but it’s great at overall evening-out of my skin and feels amazing on). I’ve started using it with W3ll People Mineral Foundation–I use the Gressa all over and a dot of the mineral powder on any dark spots or blemishes–and I love them together.

And I am so curious as to what supplement you’ve been taking! I started taking gelatin a few months ago and I adore it, so I’m definitely curious to try more!

  • Glad to hear you’re feeling better! I’m in the same boat with your shaving/waxing sensitivity. Also curious which razor you use. I just purchased a safety razor to replace my nasty lubricant strip ones, hope that will help. Bought my boyfriend Mr. Incredible.. you’ve tempted me into stealing it (:

  • pjancakes

Bentornato! I’m glad you are feeling better.

    • Grazie! How are you?

  • I wish I could go to the event! If only I was in LA :(

I’m so glad you love it!! I always like to see your face picks because I feel like we have similar issues- combination, sensitive, occasional blemish. I was happily surprised how well it works specifically for combo skin. What shade did you go with? I am currently mixing 1 and 3 to get my winter match ;)

    • Hi Alyssa, I am using the shade number 4, which is just a bit lighter than my face, but matches my body, so it looks great when I blend it down to my neck. Thank you so much for your recommendation, I am so glad I bought it :)

  • CindyBokma

I love the Gressa foundation! Ive been wanting to try Meow Meow Tweet and Yuli forever!

    • Hi Cindy, the Meow Meow Tweet deodorants are very good. They have a soft consistency the applies smoothly and don’t make your fingers feel sticky after the application. The grapefruit one appears to be the most gentle because it does not contain baking soda. I would definitely pick a sample to try ;) Thanks for reading!
