April Favorites 2014

Favorites April 2014 Genuine Glow

April is hands-down my favorite month of the year, and this year it was just as lovely as always. I was quite busy the whole month, but I got the chance to occasionally enjoy beautiful sunny days outdoor (you can take a peek on my Instagram feed, which I have started to update more regularly). I just love the smell of the April air at sunrise, seeing the flowers blooming, and of course, (lucky me, I know) quick trips to beach. Product-wise I tried a few new things that I loved but I also returned a couple products that did not work for me, and I will make sure to review both the loved ones and the not-so loved ones very soon.

Yuli Pure Mask. I already reviewed this mask and I still think that it is an outstanding face mask, and that it could work for a lot of different skin types. My skin is both oily (T-zone) and sensitive, and this mask works well to “renew” my complexion. It gives a boost of radiance and assists in healing  blemishes. Read more in my review.

MV Skincare Rose Hydrating Mist* and Maya Face Water. This month I had to take it easy with toners and facial mists because I had a few unexpected breakouts and did not immediately understand the cause. I went ahead and changed to the most basic routine possible in order to make sure that the least amount of ingredients were involved. This helped my skin tremendously. My face mists of choice were the MV Skincare Rose Hydrating Mist, and the Maya Face Water. I already wrote about the MV Skincare Rose Hydrating Mist but the Maya Face Water is a newer, much-loved discovery. I tried both the Goji and the Pure, and ended up buying a larger size of the Pure one because it works beautifully. I am tempted by telling you more about it, so I will write a separate post about later.

Pai Jasmine and May Chang Body Oil*. You guys already know how much I like Pai’s Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil and to me this feels just like a “body version” of it. I find that the scent of it is actually similar to the BioRegenerate Oil, with a hint of citrus to it coming from the May Chang. I adore this oil massaged on wet skin. It leaves my skin so smooth, well moisturized and delicately scented. It also absorbs fairly quickly, so I can get dressed shortly after the application. It does an amazing job at locking in the moisture so that until my next shower my skin is still feeling and looking lovely. If you have tried the BioRegenarate oil, you will  love this one too.

Sheswai Nail Polish in For Real*. I have been wearing lots of new nail colors, but whenever I want to keep my nails nude and chic, this is still my #1 choice. The color is just so pretty and unique, and the formula is pretty great too.

Morihata Yoshii Stripe Face Towel. I basically add a few of these with every new order at Spirit Beauty Lounge. These face towels are simply the best to remove cleanser from my face because they are soft, perfect size, perfect thickness and they wash beautifully. They are pricier than average wash clothes, but I could never go back to those scratchy clothes I used to cleanse my face with–No way! It doesn’t hurt that they are very pretty, too.

Ilia Beauty in Blossom Lady. Although the newest Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Hold Me Now is very beautiful and has the wonderful formula that you may be already familiar with, it ended up not being very loved. The reason? It is so so sheer that I can see it in pictures but not so much in real life, as if I never had enough on my lips. Bottom line, Blossom Lady was put to hard work and I may need a third tube some time soon (mind you, I almost never finish a lipstick). Perfect pink, perfect moisturizing formula, it just speaks Spring all over!

What were your favorite products in April? Did you try any of the products I mentioned, and if so, did you like them as much as I do?

Hey there, Beautiful! I just found your blog a few days ago and have since read all entries! You are definitely my favourite beauty blogger ever! Would you be so kind so as to do a video tutorial on your everyday makeup? :D …… Love this post too :)

    • Hi Nurul, that is so kind of you! Thanks so much. I am not currently filming, but if I do any tutorials in the future I will definitely let everyone know via social media. :) Thanks again, and please feel free to ask questions anytime :) x

Nice post! Maya water is on my wishlist. I think it originated from Norway. :-)x

    • Thanks love! I absolutely recommend trying the Maya Water face mists, especially if you have blemish-prone skin. If you try it let me know how you like it! ;) xx

  • Lilly your photos are so beautiful I love looking at them! The face towels are so pretty and I like the sound of the Ilia lipstick, gorgeous colour!

    • Too kind Amber! Thanks for reading :) xx

I felt the same about Ilia’s Hold Me Now, it promised so much but just didn’t deliver like I thought it would. You’ve sold me on the Pai Body Oil, it sounds amazing and just what I need! x

    • I agree with you about the Hold Me Now lippie! Just a tip in case you want to get a bit of use out of it: I mix it with another nude lipstick (Ilia Humble Me, for example). It still gives a nice pale pink color, but more pigmented ;)
Let me know what you think of the Pai Body Oil if you give it a try! :) xx

  • KitKat

No More Dirty Looks hinted at a Pai Friday deal… hopefully I will get to try the BioRegenerate Oil that you have been raving about soon!!

    • How did that go? Were you able to try the Rosehip Oil? If so, I would love to know what you think about it.

      • KitKat

I did get it!! And I can’t tell you how excited I am!! I’ve only got to try it a couple of times but I really do like how my skin feels the next morning…I can’t wait to see the long term affects of it! Is it something that you feel like you can use daily? The box says 2-3 times a wk…

  • Great picks, I need this Yuli mask! :) xx

    • Thanks love! It’s definitely worth trying ;)

  • Tiffany

If you could recommend one star oil/serum to try for night which would it be? Needing to purchase something new for night use.

    • Hi Tiffany, what is your skin type? Also, if your skin is prone to breakout I would opt for a one-ingredient face oil instead of a serum. Argan Oil is great for combination/oily skin, (Kahina Argan Oil is the one I use). For dry skin I would recommend trying Rosehip Oil (Pai Bioregenerate is my favorite). Also, make sure to apply your face oil on damp skin after cleansing to lock in the moisture.

  • Laura

Lovely. Funny, i’ve also experienced breakouts on my drier skin over the past couple of days. Maybe it’s the change of weather… Or sunscreen…

    • I agree, it could definitely be the sunscreen! I try not to use it unless I know I am going to be spending more than 15 minutes outdoors. Also, my routine is working well, especially since I started to use Yuli Halcyon.

  • PeonyandPeach

The Pai Oil sounds lovely, I really want to try it!

    • Highly recommend it! Let me know what you think if you give it a try! :)

  • Audreiana

Maya’s Facial Water Mist is definitely A+, happy you’ve gotten around to trying it! I really love it! Great picks as always Lilly :) Xo, Audreiana from True Beauty By Nature

I’m beginning to transition to green beauty and your blog has been so helpful! I just splurged on the Kahina night cream and it is absolutely gorgeous. The texture is so delicious and it sinks in beautifully. Though it absorbs quickly, my skin has been hydrated all day. Thanks to your review, I have found the best face cream I have ever tried.

    • Hi Katrina, I am so so glad you found a product that works well for your skin. I, too, think that it is one of the most beautiful face creams I have ever tried. Thanks so much for sharing! :)

  • Nat

YULI Pure is amazing! It was used on my skin during a facial and I loved it so much I bought one on the spot.

    • Hi Nat, that mask is magical! I can only imagine how good that facial was :)

  • Oh I’m in a search for new face cloths to test (currently using Emma Hardie and scratchy Pai). The Morohita Face Towels seems wonderful, and I wouldn’t really mind spending a few bucks on a organic and sustainable towel! Have you trie both the Kontex and Yoshii? If so which one felt the softest? (I would like to use it around the eye area)

I don’t really switch up my beauty products that often to form new favorites every month. But I got myself a new concealer and concealer brush from Lily Lolo. I’m very impressed by powder concealers over all, but the brush was a pleasent surprise and I’m so glad I invested in it! :)
