My Favorite Sunscreens

Favorite Sunscreen Summer 2013

Although I love getting my daily dose of vitamin D, I have committed to diligently protecting my face and to never bake it in the sun again (remember when I told you that I have lots of sun spots?). Therefore, this one has become my main Summer beauty goal: to find the perfect sunscreen for my face. Appropriate SPF, compatible texture, mattifying finish, and of course a nice and clean list of ingredients. Here are my current favorite facial sunscreens along with a body sunscreen at the end of the list, since I only have one favorite in that category.

Coola SPF 20 Face Mineral Sunscreen Rose Essence (Tinted) Moisturizer*: This is perfect for low maintenance days when I just want to wear one product on my face instead of layering moisturizer, sunscreen, concealer, foundation, etc. The shade is light/medium and the coverage is very light but is good for evening out the skin tone. It has a pretty luminous but matte finish. I wore it today and I thought it looked pretty good!

Coola SPF 30 Face Cucumber Mineral Sunscreen with Matte Finish*: Another lovely option from Coola. Being more of an oily skinned gal, I was sold at the word matte. It leaves a silky finish on the skin so I like it under makeup. It has an SPF of 30, which is great for me on sunny days so I have been using this one a lot, especially when I go for a walk outdoors.

Badger Damascus Rose Face Sunscreen SPF 16*: This one has such a nice texture, and works very well under makeup too. No sticky residues, no greasiness, no white cast. A very lightweight formula that blends beautifully. This is a great everyday option for me, since I only go for a higher SPF if I actually plan to be outdoors. It is also more budget-friendly.

Marie Veronique Organics Everyday Sheer Coverage SPF 20*: Like the Coola tinted moisturizer, this is a great option if you like to use makeup face products that contain SPF. It is also one of the best rated makeup products with SPF on the EWG.org sunscreen guide. It provides a very sheer coverage with a matte but luminous finish given by the pearl powder that is in it (doesn’t that sound sweet and fancy?)

Marie Veronique Organics Moisturizing Face Screen SPF 30*: Similar to the Everyday Sheer Coverage, but with SPF 30. A great deal in terms of protecting the skin and also providing skin care benefits. With red raspberry seed oil and green tea, I feel like I am also getting an anti-aging treatment while wearing this sunscreen. Yes, please!

Badger Aloe Vera Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30*: This is my #1 and only sunscreen option for the body (as opposed to the face). I believe that it was recently reformulated and now it has a lighter and more comfortable texture. It is non-comedogenic, so it could also be used on the face. However, I do not find it to be appropriate for my skin type, as it does make me a bit shiny. I have been using it for a very long time and it has been a trusty companion for my tanning days.

I will come back to this topic with more in depth reviews of these products, but I would love to know: what are your favorite sunscreens? And most important: do you remember to re-apply your sunscreen every hour or so? I am getting better at remembering :)
